Happy Valentines!

In possibly what can only be described as my finest hour ever ... I bought Mikey a soda stream for Valentine's day. Yep a cute little contraption that turns tap water into sparkling water. And why is this my finest hour to date you might ask? Because we realised that if it can tap water into sparkling water, it can definitely turn wine into prosecco. Which has definitely ended in our day taking an infinitely and unexpectedly more classy turn. #KnightMe

Bloomin' lovely

Oooooh, is there any time of the year better than spring?! (answer: no, there damn well isn't). While I can fully appreciate that some people get excited about barbecues and denim shorts and salt spray and minimal clothing, what really gets my cogs whirring about this time of year is that blossom is out in force. Yep, I'm that lame. I cannot believe this stuff actually grows naturally on trees, and I haven't quite worked out why it's not an all-year-round fixture yet, but what I do know is that when it's out - I go mental snap happy. I admit that photographing blossoms in England today didn't quite beat photographing blossoms in Paris last year, but they really do make my little heart rejoice, wherever I find them.

What's not to lake?

Yes. Yes these flowers are completely and utterly unrelated to the post.

Anyway. This weekend, my boyfriend and I are going to the Lake District. It will take about four hours to drive up from our little home of just-below-the-M25. Aka a very, very early start on Friday morning and, most likely, a car journey partaken in a dressing gown and slippers.

So far our plans for the weekend consist of getting very full with a three course meal on Friday night, taking Mikey's telescope into the dark at night to look at the moon (1. don't ask but then again 2. don't knock it til you've tried it!), a lot of walking and fresh air and then a pub lunch on Sunday. I'm severely hoping that when I return I will finally start revising for my final exams as well, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it (read: I won't).

Have you ever been to the Lake District and is there anything that you'd recommend?! Any ideas welcome!

Three cheers!

I'm not one for a soppy post. Hmmm...okay - I am sometimes one for a soppy post. But today I have a legitimate excuse because this Tuesday marked three years since I bumped into a certain well-shaved, well-cologned, and sort of well-spoken guy in a night club.
Since that completely random and - dare I say it without cringing - fateful (nope, definitely cringing) night, this little chap has made me laugh, has made me happy and has made me dinners. From highs of him frying chicken nuggets in a wok after a night out when we were living in Paris, to building a fort in my front room and eating so much Chinese takeaway inside it we felt sick, he has been the best boyfriend in the world and the bestest, bestest friend.

At some point this week I am going to be forcing him in front of my camera and barking at him to give me Blue Steel while he pretends to hate it. I will fill up a different blog post with these pictures but I promise I won't go mushy again.

I would also like to add that he has impeccable flower selection skills. And even better tea making ones.

Mother's day (and Bloom&Wild)

I love my mum. She is the kindest, loveliest, most generous and warm hearted person I know, who always has time to go out for coffee and cake with me, or bring me cups of tea if we're home. Not to mention that this woman can cook. And that's always a plus. I feel genuinely sorry for people that haven't tried her shepherd's pie, and don't even get me started on the heavenly raspberry mousse she whips up when she's feeling kooky. She might drive me slightly mental with her inability to sort the kitchen cupboards out logically (since when did cooking oils and cookie cutters go next to one another on a shelf!?), but I love her more than words can describe and my house wouldn't feel like home without her in it.

So, seeing as it's Mother's day soon and I'm sure loads of people are thinking of treating their mama's, I have juuuuuust the thing. A little while ago, I discovered Bloom & Wild on Twitter. And instantly fell in love. Flowers through your letterbox? What else could you ever want!? I kindly received some in the post yesterday and got so snap happy because they're just so great, so let me guide you through your Mum's new favourite thing....

First of all, they fit through your letterbox. Yep, you 'eard - through ya letterbox so you don't have to hang around waiting for them to arrive. You can pop out, shop out, and they'll be waiting for you on your return. So far, I'm loving it.

The flowers arrive all wrapped up to stop the buds getting damaged on their travels. They're easy to set free and the flowers quickly fall out into shape.

You also get the cutest little card with all available flowers from Bloom&Wild and their names. I learnt something new today (other than how obsessed with roses I am). Not only this, but your flowers come with their very own food. In their very own Bloom&Wild branded sachet. I don't know why I found this so cute, but I did.  So I fed my new roses and popped them into my favourite vase, because they deserved the very best and photographed them. Non stop. I'm refusing to apologize for the amount of pictures in this post.

Birthday Bouquet.

Katie Leask Photography Flowers 001.

I can't believe it was my birthday almost a month ago now - time flies when you're in fourth year at university apparently! These flowers are from Mikey, my favourite colours from my favourite person.

God, finding time to even take pictures is proving difficult at the moment let alone finding hours to upload blog posts. I'm looking forward to finishing university in April when hopefully this blog will stop looking so sad and lonely. However, with Christmas on the way and my inability to resist photographing pretty lights and good food, I think we may be heading towards a mini end-of-year revival.

Flowers-004I doubt there will ever be a day when flowers don't make me happy. These are from Mikey and they're sitting on my windowsill making this ridiculously miserable grey July day seem a little bit sunnier!

I met up with Jo and Tom last night to talk wedding photos and needless to say I am excited beyond measurable amounts! Finally I can sink my teeth into a proper wedding with the new lens and GAAAAHH does it feel good!! Expect to be inundated with photos of bouquets, wedding shoes, flowers, food and every single other beautiful little component of this couples special day. I for one cannot wait!
